Founder's Day
Sunday, May 30, 2010
The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend is celebrated as Founders’ Day at Our Saviour’s. We rejoice in our heritage and celebrate the pioneers who began this congregation in 1872. Worship at the OSLC Chapel in Ham Lake (the original building for Our Saviour’s) is held at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:00 a.m. using liturgy and hymns from the red Service Book and Hymnal. Refreshments are served between services, and a display of historical church memorabilia is there for you to enjoy.
Worship at our Jackson Street site is at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. that day and follows the contemporary style you’ll find at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Sept.-May and at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Christmas
We celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Savior of the world, with a variety of worship styles.
Christmas Eve
- At 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, a contemporary Christmas Eve service is led by the Power UP band. Holy Communion is served at this service
- At 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., a family-friendly service with children’s message proclaims Christ’s birth.
- At 9:00 and 10:30 p.m., a candlelight service welcomes the newborn king. Holy Communion is served at both these services.
Christmas Day
8:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, bundle up and head out to the OSLC Chapel in Ham Lake for a Julotta Christmas service, filled with traditional carols.
Lent
The season of Lent is a time to remember both that we need a Savior and we have a Savior, as we follow Jesus to his death on the cross on Good Friday and beyond, to his resurrection on Easter Sunday. On Wednesdays in Lent, we have special worship services that include music and drama.
Ash Wednesday Worship - 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. At Ash Wednesday worship we bring our brokenness before God, confessing our sins. We receive a cross of ash on our forehead and God’s grace in Holy Communion. A children’s message is part of the service as well.
“Regular Wednesdays” in Lent (all Wednesdays except Ash Wednesday and the Wednesday before Easter) we have two worship services.
- 5:30 worship uses music from the Holden Evening Prayer service, a lyrical worship setting that you’ll find yourself humming all week long.
- 6:30 worship keeps the modern musical feel of Power UP. Both services have scripture and a presentation from the Drama Team at their heart.
Holy Week
The week before Easter is Holy Week.
Wednesday of Holy Week we’ll have Power UP worship at 6:30, but it will feel a bit different. It will be a quieter, more contemplative version of Power UP, walking us through the events of the last week of Jesus’ life.
Maundy Thursday
Maundy Thursday worship at 7:00 p.m. is a time to recall Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, celebrate First Communion, and remember Jesus’ arrest. The altar is stripped, symbolic of how Christ was betrayed.
Good Friday
Good Friday offers two worship styles.
- At 10:00 a.m. an Intergenerational Service uses scripture and song as well as an opportunity to move about the worship space to touch, taste, see, and feel things that remind us of the day Jesus died on the cross. The message for the day is kid-friendly.
- A Good Friday tenebrae service is held at Noon at the OSLC Chapel in Ham Lake and at 7:00 p.m. at our Jackson Street site. Tenebrae means shadows, so candles are extinguished throughout the service as scripture and song guide us through the last day of Jesus’ life and to his death on the cross.
Easter Vigil
The day before Easter, an Easter Vigil worship service is held at 6:00 p.m. Rooted in ancient traditions, this service of scripture and song bridges the gap between the sorrow of Good Friday and the joy of Easter. We recount God’s saving acts in history, culminating with the announcement of the Good News of Easter: Christ is risen!
Easter Sunday - Christ is Risen!
Easter Sunday is a day of incredible celebration, for Christ is risen!
- Sunrise worship at 6:30 a.m. is traditional and includes Holy Communion.
- Easter Worship at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 have a blend of traditional and more contemporary hymns, as well as a children’s message.
- Easter Praise Worship at 11:15 a.m. has an edgier, more contemporary feel, and includes a children’s message and Holy Communion.
