Children and Youth Ministry   

Our Saviour’s Preschool—register today for the 2010-11 school year. Registration forms are available at the Children and Youth Ministry board. Questions? Contact Terry Fischer.

Blessing of the Backpacks—Sun., Sept. 12, at all services. Students of all ages, bring your backpack to worship for a back to school blessing. This is an important way to honor and recognize our students, blessing them and their coming school year before they hit the books.

All Program Leader Training—Sept. 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This training is for anyone, 9th grade and older, who is interested in volunteering as a leader in any of the following ministries: Sunday school, JAM, Confirmation, youth events, adult events. Leaders must take either this training or the All Program Extreme Training session.

All Program Extreme Leader Training at Camp Wapo—Sept. 17-18. A fun, interesting, challenging, wild, intense, powerful, concentrated, passionate, exciting overnight for anyone interested in volunteering as a leader. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 15 (must have a minimum of 20 people). The cost is $40.

Youth Sports Ministry—Wednesdays beginning Sept. 22, 7:15-8:15 p.m. at Lifelong Learning Center Gym (offsite location).  We will be playing lacrosse, floor hockey, basketball, dodge ball, kickball, and some crazy games you have never heard of!  Come join us to build community.  This is a great way to invite your friends to come to a church event who may have never been to one.  Bus Transportation provided to/from OSLC. 

All Program Enrollment/Orientation Night—Wed., Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m. This night is for EVERYONE and ANYONE who plans to attend any education program, participate in a small group, or join a worship or music ministry. Please turn in Sunday school/JAM/Confirmation enrollment forms before 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 8. Forms are available at All Program Registration

Small Group Ministry

Divorce Support Group—This group will be meeting on the second and third Tuesdays in September, at 7:00 p.m. You are invited if you have been affected by a divorce or are in the process of obtaining a divorce.

Confirmation Action Team (CAT) meetings—Sun., Sept. 5, from 10:15-10:45 a.m. in the library (Gathering Space). Anyone, any age is invited to this meeting to plan Confirmation events and activities.

Seasoned Adult Ministry (SAM) - Thurs., Sept. 9 at 9:00, a.m. in Pastor Maria’s office. This group meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month to plan events, share treats, and have a time of devotions. Seasoned, sassy, spicy adults are needed!

Dancing in church begins again Mon., Sept. 13, at 7:00-8:15 p.m. and continues for five consecutive weeks. Instructor Monica Mohn will teach the fox trot, rumba, swing (Craig's music), and waltz in the first four lessons, with a review of the prior dances. There will be a dance party on Mon., Oct. 11, featuring all four dances. Cost is $40 per person for all five as a package, or $10 per person for individual lessons. Faith and Fiction Book Group—Tues., Sept. 14, at 1:30 p.m. The September book is The Latehomecomer A HMONG FAMILY MEMOIR by Kao Kalia Yang. Ker Lor, a remarkable woman who is a consultant/translator for the St. Francis ABE program, has lived a similar story. Ker will join us and share her story of fleeing war-torn Laos. Seasoned Adult Ministry (SAM) St. Croix Boat and Luncheon Buffet - Thurs., Sept. 23, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Anyone who is seasoned or sassy is invited for this cruise. The boat ride is from 11:30-1:30 p.m. The cost is $26 which includes bus transportation, lunch, and boat cruise. The deadline to sign up on the Small Group Ministry board is Wed., Sept. 15. There must be a minimum of 20 people.

Take Note

SeptemberFest Sun., Sept. 12, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.—Yes, you read that right! It's not Octoberfest, but SeptemberFest!  We'll kick off our program year right with a big celebration.  We'll have a huge festival with live music,  a passport scavenger hunt, chili cook-off, artisan fair, volleyball, and more!! Bring a picnic lunch and stop by the fire pit to make s'mores for dessert. Sunday schoolers, come and see your classroom, meet your teachers, and have a blast!

Genetics Discussion Sun., Sept. 19, at 10:45 a.m. or Wed., Sept. 22, at 7:15 p.m., you can learn, discuss, and give your input to our national church about genetic research, technology, and their use. Choose the time that works for you. Presenters/moderators/recorders will be members of Our Saviour’s perfect for the task: Science Professor Gary Nelson, Mpls. Synod Vice President Michelle Reichow, and ELCA Church Council member Jack Munday.  If you want to look over the draft before discussing, download it at www.elca.org/geneticsdraft or pick up a copy at the Reception Desk. Come and investigate—no degree required!

Chili’s Pepper Profit Program—pick up a Chili’s voucher at the Reception Desk and on your next visit (dine in or to go) to the Chili’s on 109th in Blaine, 10% of your purchase (excluding taxes) will be donated to Our Saviour’s Children and Youth programs. This fundraiser runs from July—Sept.

Harvest for the Homeless—Please drop off your produce at the OSLC Ministry Center west parking lot on Thursday mornings. Other arrangements can be made by calling Karen Bermel at 763-434-2554.

Congregational Annual Meeting—Sun., Sept. 26, 12:00 p.m.  Please plan to attend the annual meeting in the Worship Space immediately following the 10:45 a.m. worship service. This is one of the most important business meetings of the year, and your voice and vote are needed. Annual reports will be available for you to pick up by Sun., Sept. 13, at the Reception Desk.

The Clothing Closet is in need of Back to School clothing for students of all ages.  We also have a great need for men's clothing: t-shirts, shirts, jeans, etc. Clean and gently used clothing can be left in the Clothing Closet box at Our Saviour’s.  Many families have been blessed by your contributions over the summer. Thank you!  Families in need of assistance may call NACE Food Shelf /Clothing Closet for the hours, 763-434-7685.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers—Fridays, Sept. 24-Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at the Bunker Hills Activity Center. Caregivers, these sessions are designed to provide you with the skills you need to take care of yourself by helping you: reduce stress; improve self-confidence; balance your life; better communicate your feelings; increase ability to make tough decisions; learn to locate helpful resources. The cost is $25 which includes books and materials. Registration forms are available at the Reception Desk.

Planning on going to the Renaissance Festival? We have a limited supply of adult tickets for $15.95 and food books for $5.00 available at the Reception Desk.

Prayers for Wholeness and Healing—two prayer stations will be available during communion today, Sept. 5, at both services. Anyone with special prayer concerns who would like someone to pray with them and receive a blessing are invited to come to the prayer station in the front of the church near the windows or in the back of the church near the windows. A small altar with candles, a kneeling bench, and someone who will pray for you and your concerns will be available at both sites.

Fair Trade coffee, tea, and chocolate will be available for purchase today,  Sept. 5, in the Gathering Space. The Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Fair Trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference—quite literally—between surviving and not surviving for small-scale coffee farmers.

1st Annual Strike Out Hunger Moonlight Bowling—Fri., Sept. 24, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Ham Lake Lanes. Your participation will help support the NACE Food Shelf and Clothing Closet. Tickets cost $15 which includes two hours of bowling and ball /shoe rental. You’ll have a chance to win many great prizes. For tickets or information call 763-434-7685.  Save your blood for the Red Cross Blood Drive scheduled for Tues., Sept. 21, 1:00-7:00 p.m., at the East Bethel Senior Center.

Can’t make it to worship?

Our Saviour’s worship services are aired on local cable stations:

  • North Metro Video airs the OSLC worship service on channel 14 at 10 p.m. on Saturdays and at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
  • East Bethel Citation Cable airs the OSLC worship service on Thursdays at 9 a.m. on channel 10, Saturdays at 6 a.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.  

DVDs of worship services are available to be checked out, once they have returned from the cable stations. Check at the Reception Desk for what is available.  

Sermons are available for download on Thursdays, following Sunday’s worship at Audio Sermon.
