SummerStock

Save the date:  Sun., July 25, 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.

In the spirit of the words from a great movie Field of Dream "If you build it they will come.” Well, what was built was something resembling a hometown festival and they sure did come – hundreds came.

In the spring of 2009 the idea to have a community event at Our Saviour’s was brought up.  To say the first annual SummerStock was a success is an understatement.  For those who were not able to attend last year or have not heard of SummerStock, it is an event that all are invited to enjoy and includes wonderful entertainment and fellowship.

The planning of the second annual SummerStock event is well underway and promises to equal last year’s event.  Here are some activities you can expect to see:

  • Parades – the event will be promoted at the East Bethel Booster Day’s Parade on Sat., July 17.  Come and see us.
  • Music by the Teddy Bear Band - The music and fun of Teddy Bear Band is created with the intent for children to gain and maintain a positive sense of self and an appreciation of their own abilities.  Go to their website to check them out at The Teddy Bear Band.
  • Other music ranging from the oldies to today’s country.
  • Lots of kid's games – Plinko, fishing game, duck races, lollipop game, just to name a few.
  • Inflatable park that exceeds your kids wildest imagination – slides, obstacle course, moonwalk, to name a few.  All are FREE, FREE, FREE!
  •  Bake sale and contest to rival the upcoming Anoka County Fair. So you think you can bake?  Let’s put our sweets where our mouths are.  We thought this would be a great place for all who have dreamed of competing at a fair.  This would be a great place to show off those glorious goodies.  If you are interested in participating in the baking contest or would just like to be an angel, donating sweets for the bake sale, please contact Wendy Mealio.
  • Food – food that is cheap, but not cheap food, including mini donuts, popcorn, baked goods, a giant slice (pizza), pop, and water.

The best part is that with the exception of cheap food all of this is FREE! BUT this does not happen without help.  Last year, to make this event such a great success, over 80 awesome volunteers put in over 150 volunteer hours.  We are still looking for volunteers to help the day of the event.  If you are willing to help out, please contact the volunteer coordinator, Michelle Leslie.  Also, if you would like to help with the final planning of this year’s event or even next year’s event you can contact Bruce Bloxham.

Join us on the 25th and invite your friends and neighbors – young and old.  There is something for everyone. Save the date:  Sunday, July 25, 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.
